So I'm at college! Exciting stuff. People here are pretty nice. I finally met my roomate, and we get along (I knew we would after she suggested we mount surge protectors so we can plug in our cells and have them right next to us even while we sleep. How me is that?) Anyways, my mom and I were being all prissy and wondering how we were going to get the beds bunked when she and her mom came in and were like, "Hell, we don't need no guy!" And they managed to do it pretty much themselves. So our room is pretty much set up and organized. I really don't know what to think of this place. So I'm going to make a good and bad list.

Good:

-It's easy to navigate the campus, even for the directionally challanged such as myself.

-It's small and friendly and you don't feel like you're getting lost in the middle of everything.

-Gigantic amounts of closet space. You could seriously fit like 8 people comfortably into one of these damn things!

-PEACE AND QUIET! I AM FINALLY FREE OF MY BROTHER!

Bad:

-They took away my comp. for a night to install random stuff (I don't like it! I want it off!)

-The RAs constantly patrol the hallways so even tho you're allowed out at night if you are out late you feel like you're doing something wrong.

-They made us participate in freaking team-building activities all day. I came to college to listen to 5 hour lectures and take notes. That's more my idea of a good time than "team-building."

-No one's laptop connects to the internet in their own freaking room!!!! I mean seriously, how hard would it be for them to maintain a wireless internet all throughout the dorms? It's not even like U of I where there are trillions of people, and even they manage to connect everyone to the internet. So basically a large part of the social scene here consists of people doing everything from jumping up and down, scaling walls, standing on their heads etc. trying to get signals for their electronics. Thankfully my mother left me her cell b/c her service is Verizon. But I already used up 9 1/2 of the 23 minutes I had, so now I have to find a place my T-Mobil can get service or translate the ridiculously complicated directions on how to hook up the phones here.

Things I Miss:

-My boyfriend and friends

-My doggie

-My high-powered blowdryer I forgot at home

-AIR CONDITIONING!

Random tip for anyone who moved in today: If you're going to take a shower and you have new towels, make sure you wash them before you use them so you don't end up covered in navy blue lint.

I need to go do stuff instead of sitting w/ this comp but I've missed it so much since they took it and installed random junk on it that I now plan on taking off. Call me guys!

Haven't even had facebook 24 hours and I'm already officially addicted. There must be a 12 step program for this sort of thing...

Wow, I really don't update this a lot during the summer. Too busy doing...interesting?...things. To catch up, I witnessed a homework bonfire, saw Roger model a bikini, and went to like 80 bookstores.

Creative Ways to Use Your Rice Cooker in College According to Kathy

1. Use it to cook shots into your rice.

2. Store weed in it.

Wonder if anyone's ever come up with this before? Maybe that's why a rice cooker is on U of I's list of things to leave at home.

Wow, it's summer! We're all free! Exciting stuff. Graduation night was amazing. The weather couldn't have been more perfect. Afterwards we all went to Chili's and then some of us went back to Jenny's. One of the more interesting parts of the night, of course, was my boyfriend kissing another guy. Could explain that, but it's just so much more fun not to.

Then went to Albion over the weekend for registration. It was actually pretty awful b/c not only do freshmen get last choice, but they have the system set up so that all the upper level courses clash w/ the 100s, the logic being that most freshmen take all 100s. So I got the amazing Greek and Roman Lit. class I wanted, but also ended up in a theater class.

Then last night when I got back, Max and I decided to go see a movie. Since he had classes early in the morning, we decided to go to AMC instead of Cinemark or Showplace as usual. Which was a bad idea for the following reason:

Me: There’s a tricky turn here that everyone misses, so watch out.

Max: This is so not a tricky turn Marissa. This is the most normal turn ever. (5 seconds later) Shit! Oh shit! (highway with a sign pointing to Aurora) Omg, shit!

So, we took a little detour. Which is why you never let a guy navigate. I consider myself one of the most directionally challenged people ever, yet was able to navigate back to the movie theater. So really we’ve learned two lessons from this ordeal: Never let a guy navigate, and always listen to Marissa b/c she’s amazing. Right Max? Yeah, so we missed DaVinci Code by like half an hour, and went to see The Breakup. It was actually pretty good. Then came back to my house to find out that Jenny and Jenn were stalking me. When they found out I wasn’t home, they actually stayed and talked w/ my mother. Yeah, kinda scary. So if any single guys r reading this, I obviously have friends that are desperately in need of boyfriends (sorry guys, I luv you, but it’s true).

It’s so amazing not having anything to do. Summer = Freedom!

Omggg, the past three days have been sooooo stressful. Happily most of that is over tomorrow, and at this time next week I will be FREE!!! This is the point at which all the teachers have realized that they got behind b/c of ap testing/ they need to squeeze in the last unit in 2 days/ all the seniors need to finish everything in a week less than everyone else b/c we graduate early. Which is how I ended up w/ 3 papers, 3 projects, and 6 tests not to mention all the other hw and reading in 3 days. So I've compensated by skipping half of school this week and cutting gym class to go finish papers. Haha, I've never ditched class before, who'd think I'd start the week before graduation? You'd think since we're graduating the teachers could lay off a little bit. Oh well, it's almost over, I'm finished bitching about it.

So interestingly I saw my first pro-life v. pro-choice debate for Hopkin's class yesterday. With a subject so overdone debate-wise, it's interesting I've never actually seen a formal debate on it before. I think everyone has determined I can't be labeled as easily anymore. What's the term you use for me Kath? "Tree-hugging liberal"? (Jeez, you hug a tree one time...) And then Max maintains that I've turned conservative. Wow, what an identity crisis: what am I now? Someone needs to figure it out and then tell me, lol.

Wow, I am so using this xanga to procrastinate. I think I've become Max... I can't handle stress anymore.

However, on the bright side, tomorrow's toga day! Al and I went to JoAnns and got this ridiculously bright pink fabric. Fun times. Jenn and Jenny, I think I know why they keep messing up your work schedules. How many people freaking work at JoAnn's that are named Jennifer?? We saw two girls tonight, I've seen another girl there before, and then the two of you must make at least 5 people there w/ the same name. That poor manager.

So now instead of doing hw I'm going to go watch whatever 1/2 hour sitcom is on tv right now. Will and Grace or Sex and the City or something. Need to fill my head up with junk and de-stress. Fill out my surveys guys-- just b/c there are more entries doesn't excuse you from it!
